Non- Fundraising Ideas for Parent Teacher Groups

Submitted by Hunter on November 12, 2010 – 4:54 pmNo Comment

As a parent teacher group at school, sometimes you might feel like your only job is to raise money for one thing or another. Yes, fundraising is generally a big part of what the parent teacher group does at a school, but it’s definitely not the only thing– or the most important.

The role of a parent teacher group is to build community and familiarity between parents and school faculty. It’s purpose is to build a better and more enriching education for the students at the school.

There are several different ways parent groups can help build this community without having to raise any money. Here’s a list and a few resources for you to check out!

• Reading and math tutoring

• Teacher assistance

• Teacher/staff appreciation lunches

• Front office assistance (making copies, answering phones, greeting visitors)

• Grounds beautification (weeding, planting)

• Coordinating student dances or talent shows

• Destination Imagination

• Coordinating and hosting after-school activities

• Coordinating and hosting after-school or weekend play groups on the    playground

• A “Muffins with Moms” or “Donuts with Dad” activity once a month

• Canned food drives

Try implementing something from this list at your school and let us know how it goes! Or get creative and come up with something on your own.

No matter what it is, as long as it’s giving a service to the school and/or parents and students at the school it’s a good thing!

We appreciate any and all comments!
